Open the download
Find TrueAuthor-0.7.0-win-x64.exe in your Downloads folder and double-click it. Everything is bundled into this one file. There is nothing to extract or install, and no separate .NET download is needed.
Start your first writing history
Open Word, Google Docs, or another supported editor. When True Author offers to track the document, choose Start tracking. Then write normally.
See your audit
Choose Open in browser in the desktop companion. Your local writing history opens in your browser. The app also stays near the Windows clock; click the ↑ arrow if its icon is hidden.
Windows warning or missing document?
This is an unsigned development preview, so Windows may show a publisher warning. Use the official True Author download. If the document is not detected, choose New project in the companion. Coverage depends on the editor’s accessibility; the Chrome extension improves Google Docs capture.
Setup helpThey find each other.
No code to copy. Install both on the same Windows PC, then approve the connection once.
- Keep the Windows app running.
- Open the Chrome extension and choose Enable recording.
- Choose Yes in the Windows connection prompt.
- Look for Connected in the extension. It reconnects automatically after that.
Opened the Windows app later? Click Connect to desktop in the extension. Signing in is separate and optional. Text stays on your device; browser-only cloud sync is not available.
