Download Chrome extension

Manual ZIP installation for desktop Chrome. On Mac, double-click the ZIP to extract it; the remaining Chrome steps are the same.

On Windows? Use the no-extraction setup helper · 50.4 MB

Chrome Web Store installation is not available yet. Neither option needs an account or the desktop companion.

Follow these steps

  1. Extract the download

Find the ZIP in your Downloads folder. Right-click it and choose Extract All. Keep the extracted folder—you’ll select it in Chrome.

  2. Open Chrome’s extension settings

Type chrome://extensions into Chrome’s address bar and press Enter. Turn on Developer mode at the top right.

  3. Add the extension

Click Load unpacked. Select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Choose the folder, not the ZIP file.

  4. Enable recording

Click Chrome’s puzzle-piece icon, then True Author. Read the disclosure and click Enable recording. Pin the extension to keep it easy to reach.

  5. Write and review

Reload any writing tabs already open, then write in Google Docs or a supported browser field. Open the extension and click Open document library to review your browser audits.

Extension missing or not recording?

Make sure you selected the extracted folder containing manifest.json, not its parent folder. Check that recording is enabled and the site is not excluded. Reload your writing tab after installation or updates. This preview is installed manually; it is not in the Chrome Web Store yet.

No code to copy. Install both on the same Windows PC, then approve the connection once.

  1. Keep the Windows app running.
  2. Open the Chrome extension and choose Enable recording.
  3. Choose Yes in the Windows connection prompt.
  4. Look for Connected in the extension. It reconnects automatically after that.
